The Coalition has requested and received the complete public comments on the future of Loudoun that citizens provided in late 2016 and early this year, and will be conducting a full analysis of the many public comments contained in the now-accessible database.
We have read through them all (nearly 4,800), and have some early observations:
(1) Housing and growth is a major issue – many call for more controlled growth, more quality control on new projects, more urban style housing close to Metro and more affordable workforce type housing
(2) Transportation continues to be a significant concern with many comments about congestion and many asking for specific projects to be undertaken
(3) Many Envision participants called for the preservation of open/green space, the rural ambiance of Loudoun, more parks, trails and recreational areas and preservation of our environment
(4) And, many people want Loudoun to offer more cultural/entertainment and “going out” options
These priorities echo the values captured in the recent UVA Weldon Cooper survey of Loudoun residents in which the top views of residents were identified as:
Biggest Concerns:
(1) Negative impacts of growth
(2) Traffic congestion
Most Attractive Features:
(1) Convenience of suburban neighborhoods
(2) Our rural and open countryside
We hope you will dig into the database yourself and use our analytic tools to explore the vision of Loudoun expressed by of so many residents during the Envision Loudoun public meetings. Here it is. Envision Analysis Toolkit for Public 2017-04-26
