Farming in Sterling: The Edds, Ewing, and Nokes Families
February 15, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeBefore Countryside, Cascades, and the Dulles Town center, there were African American-owned farms in the Sterling area. The Edds dairy farm, called Pidgeon Hill, eventually became the community of Countryside. The Ewing farm is now incorporated into Cascades. Most of the Nokes property is now the Dulles Town Center shopping mall.

Presenters are:
Donna Bohanon – Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library
Lori Kimball – Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum
Joan Martin Smith – Granddaughter of Flora and William Edds
Richard Nokes and family – Descendants of the Nokes family
Historic documents from the Loudoun County Courthouse will be on display.
Presented by the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
