DEQ Meeting: Stress on North Fork of Catoctin Creek
August 3, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In 2008 Virginia Dept of Environmental Quality (DEQ) identified the lower 4-mile reach of North Fork Catoctin Creek from Wheatland to north of Waterford as impaired due to poor aquatic benthic organisms. Last year a 2-mile reach of upper North Fork in the Hillsboro area was also listed as impaired.
At 6 p.m. On August 3rd DEQ staff will present their findings as to the possible causes of the pollution. This will include a review of stream monitoring data and an analysis of the “stressors”: nutrients, hydromodification, toxic chemicals, sediment organic matter and other possibilities. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Purcellville Library, 220 East Main Street in Purcellville.
There will be a 30-day comment period following the Public Meeting. Virginia DEQ is looking for your input! Contact Loudoun Watershed Watch for more information.
