DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution brought about irreparable divisions within many families throughout the colonies. Virginia attorney Edmund Randolph was quick to embrace the patriot cause\, while his father remained steadfastly loyal to the Crown. This fissure would define one of Virginia’s most prominent families for decades and shaped Edmund’s political career through the early years of the Republic. His service in the Continental Congress\, the Constitutional Convention\, and as the nation’s first Attorney General and second Secretary of State were crucial to the development of the young United States.\nJoin 2018 Monticello Fellow Stephanie Seal Walters as she delves into the feud that split the Randolph family during and after the American Revolution. The program begins at the Cunningham Chapel in Millwood and will conclude with a tour of nearby Carter Hall\, site of Edmund Randolph’s death in 1813. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2016\, the Virginia Outdoors Foundation is partnering with Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in Loudoun County to host the Virginia Outdoors Festival.\nThe event features guided tours of the preserve: an ecological hike and a pollinator walking tour. DESCRIPTION:The county’s Department of Planning and Zoning will present draft information and policies for the Loudoun County Silver Line Small Area Plan at a meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday\, September 13\, at Moorefield Station Elementary School\, 22325 Mooreview Parkway\, in Ashburn.\nThe Silver Line Small Area Plan will update the county’s land use plan and policies to guide future development of land surrounding the Ashburn and Loudoun Gateway Metrorail stations planned for the area. \nThe presentation will include new information that builds on details provided at the June 29 public meeting\, where the land use plan and related information were presented. Specific topics to be discussed include the plan vision\, urban design\, community facilities\, and transportation. DESCRIPTION:The Waterford Foundation  holds its first Heritage Crafts School this weekend. The program is a hands-on environment where students can learn traditional crafts and skills that celebrate America’s heritage while creating a lasting\, finished product. Classes include 10 hours of instruction over three days (Friday-Sunday)\, and course material is appropriate for adults and mature teenagers.
