SUMMARY:Wine & Art for Wildlife
DESCRIPTION:Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and 25 local artists have teamed up with the help of the Loudoun Arts Council to raise awareness about vanishing habitat in Loudoun County. Each artist has created a one-of-a-kind birdhouse utilizing bluebird\, owl\, wren\, and other birdhouses to create magnificent works of art. Highlighting this collection of award-winning artists are 5 birdhouses created by the DaVinci Art Studio\, an inclusive arts program. \nThe birdhouses will be for sale at Wine (and art) for Wildlife via live auction on March 27th at 6:30pm at Sunset Hills Vineyards in Purcellville. All proceeds from this event will benefit Loudoun Wildlife. Tickets to the auction ($50) will be on sale February 1 at www.loudounwildlife.org. \nBirdhouses are on display at the following locations of sponsors and supporters: Sunset Hills Vineyards\, Purcellville; Catoctin Creek Distillery\, Purcellville; Art Sweet Art\, Leesburg; Hunt Country Jewelers\, Purcellville; Wild Birds Unlimited\, Gainesville; Wild Birds Unlimited\, Ashburn; Cascades Library\, Sterling. \nBirds were the inspiration for this project since birds inspire wonder in so many people\, and they are excellent indicators of ecosystem health. SUMMARY:Farming in Sterling: The Edds\, Ewing\, and Nokes Families
DESCRIPTION:Before Countryside\, Cascades\, and the Dulles Town center\, there were African American-owned farms in the Sterling area. The Edds dairy farm\, called Pidgeon Hill\, eventually became the community of Countryside. The Ewing farm is now incorporated into Cascades. SUMMARY:Lovettsville 101:  An introduction to the German Settlement
DESCRIPTION:The Lovettsville Historical Society will present this special program on Lovettsville’s history\, which will feature a 30-minute video made for the “On this Ground” series on Loudoun Cable TV in 2006. It tells the story of “The German Settlement\,” now called Lovettsville\, from the time before European settlers arrived\, up to the present time. \nThe program\, which begins at 2 p.m. Sunday\, February 9\, at the St. James United Church of Christ\, 10 East Broad Way in Lovettsville\, is narrated by local historian and educator Richard Gillespie\, and features interviews with a number of long-time Lovettsville-area residents.  Some of those interviewed for the 2006 program will be present and available to answer questions. \nThe Lovettsville Museum will be open after the program for a reception and refreshments. \nThe program is free and open to the public\, but donations and are welcome to defray expenses of the program. SUMMARY:Edmund Randolph: A Forgotten Founding Father
DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution brought about irreparable divisions within many families throughout the colonies. Virginia attorney Edmund Randolph was quick to embrace the patriot cause\, while his father remained steadfastly loyal to the Crown. This fissure would define one of Virginia’s most prominent families for decades and shaped Edmund’s political career through the early years of the Republic. His service in the Continental Congress\, the Constitutional Convention\, and as the nation’s first Attorney General and second Secretary of State were crucial to the development of the young United States.\nJoin 2018 Monticello Fellow Stephanie Seal Walters as she delves into the feud that split the Randolph family during and after the American Revolution. The program begins at the Cunningham Chapel in Millwood and will conclude with a tour of nearby Carter Hall\, site of Edmund Randolph’s death in 1813.
